On arrival at Inkerman Barracks in January 1948, we had to furnish our appointed barrack room ourselves, carrying beds, tables boxes etc. from stores beyond the square, near the N.A.F.F.I.

The room was immediatly above the Sergent's mess, in the right wing of the main block. Beds were made 'down', that is, with sheets in place, blankets folded two handspans from the head, with turn over of one and a half handspans; with all beds lined up to correspond with each other. The word 'Welcome' was not on the mat!

Our RSM was RSM Percy Sedgwick, ex guards, six foot something with a 'Kitchener' waxed moustache, very formidable.
There were Two CSM's, Stead and Chapman.

My MT. Instructor was a Sgt.Leach, a Scot if I remember correctly.

We occasionly had un-armed combat 'taught' by Corporal Scott, an ABA boxing champ, (so we were told). The course was for thirteen weeks. Eight weeks PD and two weeks MT, with one week revision.

Leslie Mitchell, (21058497). Squads 22/23. Later 158 and 105 Pro.Coys.
